Northside Kennels in Creedmoor, NC
Mason Tilley & Bre Overton
Hunting with hounds has always run deep for Mason Tilley of Northside Kennels. He was brought up deer hunting alongside his dad and grandpa, learning the woods and the dogs from an early age. As he got older, Mason found himself pulled more toward the competitive side of field trialing. Once he got his driver’s license, he started putting in the miles and the time, really dedicating himself to the sport.
He officially started running under Northside Kennels in 2016, a name that comes from being based on the north side of Creedmoor. Somewhere along the way, back in their high school days, Bre came into the picture. Before long, she fell head over heels for running, raising, and caring for hounds right alongside Mason.
Not long ago, the two of them loaded up and headed to the 2026 Southern Classic, and it turned into a trip they won’t forget anytime soon. That’s where they made their first Field Champion—Northside’s Malibu.
“Malibu is by far the nicest hound i have had.” Mason said, thinking back to when he first got her as a 5-month-old pup from breeder Doug Fuqua. By 7 months old, she was sent to Hoyles Fox Preserve to get her start. After a week, Dusty and Mason figured she’d benefit from another, and once she came back home, Mason kept her going by pleasure running twice a week.
It didn’t take long for her to show what she was made of. At a year and a half, she placed fifth at Hawtree Fox Preserve, first at the West Virginia State 1-Day, and thirteenth at the Midway Fire Department 1-Day. Just shy of two years old, she picked up third at the 2-Day Derby Hunt at Tar River Fox Preserve. Most recently, she brought home fourth at the Warren County 1-Day Masters Hunt.
After countless hours of running, patience, and care poured into her, Malibu made Field Champion at the Southern Classic 3-Day at just two years old. She came out strong, earning High Dog on day one and day two, then finishing third High Dog on day three while leading the overall speed and drive across the entire hunt.
“She has been an absolute pleasure to own and watch grow.” - Mason Tilley
